My path to Estate Planning was not a straight line as most things in life are not. I was determined from a very young age to be an attorney and so I vehemently followed that path. I was educated in Canada where I am originally from, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Psychology and on the heels of that my LL.B./JD, graduating at the top of my class. My early ears as an eager young attorney were spent in the Board Room drafting copious amounts of thick documents to protect large banks in the world of mergers and acquisitions. I also handled real estate deals, asset management and designed complex offshore tax plans.
The world of business and the excessive amount of rain in Vancouver eventually lead me to Southern California. I revisited my reason for becoming an attorney and it was always with the goal of helping my community. After seeing family after family falter in the world of estate planning, leading families to bitter disputes, time in court, expensive fees, unnecessary taxes and lost assets to the State because they didn’t know or because they thought they had everything in place I decided estate planning was a place I could call home.
I am now happily immersed in the world of legacy and life planning and here to help you achieve your goals and make the process smoother for your family. There can be a lot of pitfalls in this area leading to devastating results but careful planning with the right advisor can help you avoid unwanted results.
